Nuclear medicine; Safe, painless and cheap way to view any region of the body and treatment of diseases is a branch of medicine. Unlike the diagnostic radiology that gives only anatomical information, it is learned about the structure and function of any organ with nuclear medicine methods. Generally, diseases can be detected before they become detectable by other radiological methods and clinical signs develop, that is, by early nuclear medicine methods. Thus, the disease can be treated more successfully and more successfully.

A very small amount of radioactive material and radiopharmaceutical is used for nuclear imaging. Pharmaceuticals are substances which bind specifically to any organ, bone, or tissue when administered to the body. When connected with radioactive material, it takes the name of radiopharmaceutical and connects to the organ that we want to be displayed and connects it with gamma rays by means of the accompanying radioactivity and it enables the viewing of the organ with gamma or PET cameras. These cameras are connected to computers so that data and information about the displayed part of the body is obtained. Nuclear medicine applications and the radiation dose of the body with radiological X-ray diagnostic methods are approximately the same levels.

Since our hospital is a branch hospital, Myocardial Perfusion Scintigraphy, which is the main attraction in our department, is applied for the following purposes:

  • Diagnosis of coronary artery disease
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of bypass surgery
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment for heart failure
  • Evaluation of the transplanted heart
  • Selection of patients for bypass or angioplasty
  • Cardiac risk assessment of patients who will be operated for other reasons
  • Diagnosis of right heart failure
  • Monitoring whether chemotherapy is harmful to the heart
  • Quantitative evaluation of shunts
  • Diagnosis and location of infarction before enzyme changes
  • Diagnosis of coronary artery disease

There are two double-headed GE brand (Discovery 630NM and Infinia) gamma camera with an average of 1200 shots per month. There is no treatment in our department.
